The masters of outrageous headlines decided to cover up Pashinyan’s disgraceful trip to the Albanian capital Tirana with yet another dirty statement by his illegal wife Anna Hakobyan. The Pashinyan couple is playing big, not letting the Armenian world to concentrate, soul-search, and comprehend what is happening.
But let us nevertheless recall how the 6th European Political Community Summit went in Tirana last week. Firstly, it was reaffirmed that it is his two Turkish patrons, Recep Erdoğan and Ilham Aliyev, who interest Pashinyan most in ‘the European community’. Instead of seeking their boycott in a framework that clearly has no room for the Armenophobia they practice, Pashinyan opts to legitimise them in the eyes of prospective mediators in the talks. In doing so, he demonstrates that their behaviour is to his liking, then telling the naive domestic audience that there is nobody to support us and there is no alternative to Turkish colonisation.
In Tirana, Pashinyan expectedly failed to seize the opportunity to talk to European leaders even by 5%. As has been the case with the US and everywhere else he has stepped foot, he failed to bring a single new draft document, a single clear signal of support, or a single autonomous bilateral or multilateral platform. Like almost everything else in recent years, this major diplomatic event passed Armenia by.
Pashinyan did meet with one of the European prime ministers – the leader of the Netherlands – and was not at all embarrassed by the reception with the Armenian flag upside down. So as not to offend the much-respected ‘descendants of Caucasian Albanians’, Pashinyan, just in case, did not make a remark to the host of the summit – Balkan Albania, either.
At last, we saw the busboy of the Real Armenia Motel ask the patron (customer) out for coffee. The latter condescendingly agreed and chose to not shine with wit and hospitality, as Anna Hakobyan once did when she invited Mehriban Aliyeva to have tea in Shushi.
We must clearly understand that for Pashinyan, continued disgrace is the only guarantee of his political survival. Naturally, he will gladly wait for Aliyev at the gates of Syunik with a cup of coffee while his ‘guest’ declares a renewed war on Armenia, a war that has never ended.
Humiliation is not an alternative to defeat, but one of its many manifestations. These bitter defeats under the rule of Nikol Pashinyan and his ‘Real Armenia’ are the daily cup of coffee of every Armenian, no matter what delusions we may entertain ourselves with and no matter how much we try to dissociate ourselves from the current government. He begs the executioner of the Armenian people to share a coffee with him – then everything is fine by him. We allow him to act that way, so it suits us as well. It will remain that way until we prove otherwise.
