On the Parasit-ians

‘The West will help us!’ This motto from ‘The Twelve Chairs’ by Ilf & Petrov, characterises the best the trips that some figures make to various world capitals from Moscow and Tehran to Brussels and Washington, trying to sell themselves, their history, their identity, their people, and their country. As our state lacks any substance and does not provide immunity to the Armenian nation, the void of essence has been filled by countless parasites of all colors and shapes. Recently, two such parasites went to Washington to once again amuse American congresspeople, for whom Armenia is at best just a set of letters. This is just banal logic, stemming from a simple algorithm of Realpolitik. If no statehood exists, no national interests exist; if there is no short-term, medium-term, or long-term strategy, no fundamental mission is established. If a nation lacks its mission, no aims are set. We have been living in an inertial survival mode with zero real functionality and, consequently, zero real subjectivity.

However, the parasites are not very concerned about these facts, since their task is not to spare Armenia, but on the contrary, to bring an end to it. For them, it is just business, it is about completing a task set by the owner, and the orders must be followed. The ‘i(y)an’ ending to their last names allows them to create an impression in their own nation that they are driven by extreme concern for the fate of their country.

The US congresspeople spent a whole hour trying to convey a message that Ilham Aliyev is a wise and constructive leader of friendly Azerbaijan, and Turkey is a long-standing and proven NATO ally to those two Armenian-ish Turks. We must give credit to American legislators, who from time to time tried to cool the democratic ardor of two individuals diagnosed with brain liberalism syndrome down. In turn, having completed formalities, they moved on to the main thing – Russia. ‘Forget about Aliyev and Erdogan’, they would state, ‘we are not interested in the 120 thousand Artsakhi locals expelled from their homes. We do not care about the graves of our ancestors, upon which the Azerbaijanis are building hotels. We do not care about the memory of 5 thousand young Armenian soldiers and officers who stood for 44 days against the coalition of countries against the backdrop of the indifference of the international community’.

Surely, they would fail to mention that Washington insisted that the US would not allow the expulsion of Armenians from Artsakh. The only thing that matters to those two is Russia being a threat to Armenian Democracy. The same ‘Democracy’ that is now dismantling the remnants of Armenia in real time. It is the same ‘Democracy’ that is now helping to cover up the driver of the government motorcade who fatally hit a young pregnant woman. It is now turning a blind eye to the unlawful detention of Armenian citizens by Azerbaijan and erasing Armenian history. ‘Well, if the talk is about Russia, that changes everything’, the congresspeople thought and suddenly perked up, reminding just in case that it is possible to negotiate with Aliyev. ‘It was Putin who beguiled him’. The cherry on the cake is the Americans’ vow to protect Armenia’s territorial integrity to the last American. The formula is as easy as pie. As soon as Aliyev violates Armenia’s sacred borders, the West, led by the United States, will immediately condemn him harshly and call on him not to do so in the future.

Well, Russia and the CSTO constantly express ‘concern’ instead of fulfilling their allied obligations, meanwhile the West will use different terminology – ‘we condemn’. Introduction of Western sanctions against Baku for the ethnic cleansing of the Armenian population in Artsakh is too much. Declaring Aliyev a war criminal for bombing civilians and using militants from terrorist organisations is over the top. Oh, stop it! Restoring Section 907 to the Freedom Support Act is off the table. Why would we do so? Even recall of the Ambassador to Baku for consultations is not an option. Instead, let him pay a visit to Shushi and talk about the strong and strategic American-Azerbaijani relations.
