The current Armenian authorities persistently keep squandering historical lands. Well, or engaging in “nullification of enmity” with Azerbaijan, as Nikol Pashinyan calls it. However, whatever one calls the ongoing processes, their destructive meaning does not change.
Nevertheless, the “negotiation track” has been launched and the choice of dates for bilateral meetings draws attention. For example, the rendezvous between Foreign Ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov has been scheduled for May 10. Everything would be all right, if not for a couple of bold “buts”.
First, May 10 is the 101st anniversary of Heydar Aliyev’s birth. Secondly, it is the eve of the 30th anniversary of signing the “indefinite” ceasefire agreement on the results of the war for the liberation of Artsakh. It feels like the Azerbaijani side is making a clear hint of political symbolism but Mirzoyan and his boss have a poor knowledge of history and do not recognize political signs and symbols.
At this rate, the signing of the “peace treaty” between Baku and Yerevan, when and if it takes place, can be safely timed to coincide with the birthday of Aliyev Jr.
